FEBRUARY February 28th:'El día de Andalucía'
The end of the month brings us a regional holiday. The 28th February is 'El día de Andalucía' and commemorates a referendum held on this date in 1980. The new constitution of 1978 allowed for regions to become 'autonomous communities' if their voters so wished. Andalusian voters were duly asked to approve the idea, which they did, and were rewarded for their pains with an annual day's holiday on that date.

January 6th: The Three Kings
Thousands of people have followed the Three Kings in the streets of Nerja, in a procession which ended in the Balcony of Europe, where they made offerings to the baby Jesus in the living Nativity Scene installed opposite the church of El Salvador.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar visited the streets of the town accompanied by characters from the most popular children as usual. Local bands, such as he Municipal Band, the Band of Bugles and Drums and charanga Los Tropicales also took part in the noisy parade.
Last but not least, nearly 1.000 kilos of sweets were distibuted to eager children along the entire route, most of them donated by banks and by Nerja Cultural Centre.
